A puppet fire. Mirror-generated hordes. A tent that seems to be made of molten gold. These are some of the niftier effects in "Alchemia," the striking, if gimmicky and sometimes over-solemn extravaganza from the dance-illusion company Momix. The 80-minute spectacle ran for three showings over the weekend at the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond; this coming weekend it will touch down at George Mason University's Center for the Arts for performances on May 1 and 2.
